You can prompt them before their balance is running and they will also be able to call the IVR just to check on their current balance.

Q: What is the user experience for calling card system?

A: Customers using the prepaid (debit card) system would begin by calling the access number of the ITSP or other company offering the service. The system begins with a welcome message. If the system is configured for multiple languages, then preferred language selection occurs next. Once the language has been chosen, users are then prompted for their account number. The account number is the combination of the user's user identification number (UID) and personal identification number (PIN). Provided the account number is the proper length, and is a valid account number, users are then authorized. After successful authorization, the prompt returns the amount of credit available on the users account. The next prompt asks users for a destination number. A second authorization phase then occurs, authorizing a call to the number entered. If authorized, users are then returned the amount of time left in their account for a call to that destination.

If a user hangs up after call completion, then that is the end of the call. If, instead, the user presses and holds the pound (#) button on the telephone keypad (more than 1 second), then the authorization process begins again at the second authorization phase (see Figures 1-5). A new credit amount is sent to the user (through a voice prompt) and the call to the new destination begins. Users can use the system to make repeated calls, only having to enter their account number for the first call, assuming they never disconnect.

If, at any time during the call(s), the credit amount left in the account reaches the preconfigured warning amount (typically one minute left), then a warning prompt is played telling users that they have one minute left. If a user continues to talk until all the time is consumed, a message is played that says, "you have been disconnected."
