February 18, 2010, Austin, TX — Alepo today announced the introduction of its 3GPP Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF). The PCRF supports dynamic policy management and network optimization for LTE and IMS networks. As the role of LTE and IMS grows, a 3GPP-compliant PCRF will become central to 4G networks.
The amount of bandwidth used per person is increasing much more quickly than the expansion of broadband itself, stretching current networks to capacity. It is therefore increasingly important that providers find ways to maximize network efficiency. A PCRF is able to automatically do this by lowering the bandwidth of users who are slowing down the network during peak times due to overuse. Additionally, offering quality of service (QoS) based plans allows for more efficient network management while simultaneously increasing revenue per customer and customer satisfaction.
“Alepo’s 3GPP PCRF is a central network element for LTE and IMS networks,” stated John Kim, Director of Telecommunications at Alepo. “Dynamic and on-demand policy change will not only help network integrity, but will increase customer service by offering a wider breadth of services and a highly responsive network at all times,” he concluded.
Alepo’s 3GPP PCRF supports the creation of QoS-based services by offering bandwidth-based plans and network efficiency is achieved via automatic downgrading of overactive users and tearing down sessions when maxiumum bandwidth is reached. Additionally, the Alepo 3GPP PCRF supports alerts, which can inform customers when they are reaching their bandwidth cap or a certain balance, avoiding bill shock and increasing customer satisfaction.
