Monday, November 4, 2019, CAPE TOWN– Consistently lauded by its clients for creating exemplary customer experiences, digital enablement software provider Alepo is now on the shortlist for the coveted AfricaCom Awards 2019 for developing solutions that “put the customer first.”

Alepo has been shortlisted in the Delivering Excellence in Customer Experience category. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on November 13, as part of the three-day AfricaCom conference being held from November 12-14 at CTICC in Cape Town.

Over the years, Alepo has played a strategic role in revolutionizing the African telecommunications landscape. Its clients include Tier 1 operators in key markets and nearly 30 deployments across the continent. This year, it has been recognized by the AfricaCom Awards for a project in West Africa and its success and role its software played in delivering top customer experience for new LTE data offers as well as legacy 3G packages.

“When our customer introduced LTE in Sierra Leone, it wanted to create modern, compelling, and relevant data offers. Their subscriber base included both feature phone as well as smartphone users, so we needed to deliver a compelling customer experience that cuts across a diverse set of complex legacy requirements. Alepo’s Data Network Monetization Solution (DNMS) offers our clients this flexibility in a converged platform,” said Derrick Gross, President, Alepo.

The fact that many users do not have smartphones in Sierra Leone underscored the need for a flexible system – a need fulfilled by Alepo DNMS. Alepo’s seamless integration with the legacy CRM enabled USSD support for customers using feature phones. Its PCRF’s dynamic, fine-grained policy management across all services and technologies optimally manages network resources to further amplify the customer experience.

“The challenge was building a modern experience for an emerging customer base, and traditional experience for others. Our platform lets IT or marketing teams swiftly create very unique, diverse, targeted data offers that can also be purchased with the same ease as traditional plans,” said Vishal Mathur, Vice President – Solution Integration, Alepo.

This year’s AfricaCom conference is expected to see attendance from the most prominent names in African telecoms. With 15,000 attendees, 450 speakers, and 500 exhibitors, it focuses on connectivity infrastructure, disruptive technologies, digital services or ICT strategy, and more. Aligning with the event’s objectives, the AfricaCom Awards acknowledge the achievements of companies, products and solutions, and people who contribute to improving connectivity in Africa and drive the region towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Zain Jordan improves customer experience with a major upgrade of Alepo’s AAA

Zain Jordan improves customer experience with a major upgrade of Alepo’s AAA

  • The upgraded system further digitizes the customer experience, eliminating manual provisioning
  • The AAA will be more robust, with additional failover, monitoring, and proactive alert features
  • Security enhancements provide comprehensive role-based access
  • Customers will enjoy a more seamless sign up and sign in experience
  • Migration services were carried out remotely, seamlessly, and with zero downtime
Tuesday, October 1, 2019, AMMAN – Cementing its telecommunications leadership, Zain Jordan has undergone a significant upgrade of its authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) infrastructure. The new AAA is expected to improve performance, reliability, and provide a more complete digital customer experience. The upgrade, completed in July, uses software from digital enablement and revenue management solution provider Alepo, which has been Zain’s long-standing partner for AAA infrastructure. The new AAA will provide several crucial enhancements: more robust automated failover, enhanced role-based security, real-time monitoring, and proactive alerts. Zain’s customers will also benefit, both directly and indirectly. By eliminating manual provisioning steps, customers will experience a faster and more streamlined sign up experience and be able to authenticate in more ways, including by device and location. Customers will also get improved performance and reliability. “As a progressive telecommunications provider, we are constantly modernizing our services and operations, and Alepo’s AAA upgrade will enable us to continue doing so. The automation and real-time monitoring fit with our broader DevOps strategy. And the openness and flexibility of the platform provide a state-of-the-art customer experience,” said Mohammed Abu Rumman, Network Director, Zain Jordan. Alepo had built and configured Zain’s legacy AAA over a decade earlier, but the telecom recognized it was time for a major upgrade. Abu Rumman added, “Alepo is our provider of choice given our long history with the company. They are committed to ensuring the migration is seamless to our customers and that there is continuous availability.” The upgrade was carried out remotely despite its scale. Data was migrated to a new SQL database without any service interruptions or the requirement for onsite engineers, ensuring cost and risk are minimized. “Our delivery team has helped steer migration planning, testing, and monitoring from our GTAC offices [global technical assistance center]. This not only shortens time to market but minimizes implementation costs. Zain Jordan is a loyal customer and this upgrade enables the best support and new features of our latest AAA,” said Vishal Mathur, VP Solution Integration, Alepo. About Zain Jordan Zain Group acquired Zain Jordan in January 2003, in what was considered the largest single acquisition in the Middle East region, and the largest private sector investment in Jordan. In 1995, Zain Jordan revolutionized telecommunications in Jordan by introducing GSM mobile services. Zain quickly became the foremost telecom company in the country, a position that it has held to this day by investing in adopting cutting edge technology to provide state-of-the-art services. Since its inception, Zain Jordan has tallied subscriber growth at an exceptional rate, with around 5,903 million subscribers in the kingdom. Through over 8,132 cell sites, Zain covers the entire populated area of Jordan. Aiming at maintaining its leading position in the marketing, Zain acquired in 2014 the license to provide LTE services for the first time in the kingdom. The service was launched in all the governorates of the kingdom in 2015, offering speeds of up to 150 mb per second. Also, part of its portfolio is the Zain Fiber FTTH service, which provides premium-quality stable internet with high speed. Zain is considered one of the pillars of the Jordanian economy as it creates jobs for its roughly one thousand employees plus thousands of indirect employment opportunities. • 3G/LTE subscribers of m:tel will be able to seamlessly offload to the WiFi network, improving mobile capacity and coverage
  • The service is expected to kick off in December 2018

Tuesday, October 23, 2018, AUSTIN, TX, USA- The leading telecommunications operator in Bosnia and Herzegovina, joint stock company Mtel a.d. Banja Luka, trading as m:tel, is set to roll out a new range of free and paid WiFi plans in December 2018. To enable the new capabilities, m:tel is upgrading their WiFi core with network and software solutions provider Alepo’s WiFi Service Management Platform (SMP).

Casual users will benefit from new ways of connecting to m:tel’s WiFi hotspots, including free options. Paid offerings will also be available with the addition of voucher-based offers and subscriptions. Prepaid users of m:tel will be able to use their mobile balance to purchase WiFi offers, while post-paid users will see it reflected in their monthly invoices.

Alepo’s solution will support a growing number of locations, affiliates, and additional monetization capabilities as well as offering offload for 3G/LTE subscribers. An integrated analytics tool will provide customizable granular reports for specific locations and usage patterns.

The Alepo WiFi SMP will give m:tel the ability to create captive portals and location-based offers while extending the same capability to affiliates, who will also be able to create their own hotspots with flexible revenue-share arrangements. Affiliates can, for instance, create video advertisements and compensate m:tel based on the number of views.

Further, offloading 3G/LTE customers to the WiFi network will help improve mobile capacity and coverage. As part of the solution, Alepo’s convergent and flexible AAA affords a seamless experience to subscribers, who do not need to manually authenticate on the WiFi network.

“We chose Alepo because their software and services tick all the boxes. As a tier-1 carrier, the security, robustness, and integration capabilities they offer are essential to us. They also provide the reliability we were after, while still giving us the flexibility to decide how we can best leverage our growing WiFi network,” said Srđan Bundalo, Head ICT at m:tel.

“Successful WiFi monetization by operators requires a multi-pronged approach. ROI can’t be just about charging for access, it relies on organic growth via affiliates, cross-promotion with traditional mobile plans, and data monetization. Our solution has the necessary characteristics of a carrier solution, while also offering enough flexibility to support m:tel’s use cases,” says Vishal Mathur, VP-Solution Integration of Alepo.

Alepo has a growing list of successful WiFi deployments across the world, joining the already established list of its BSS deployments globally.
