Zain Jordan improves customer experience with a major upgrade of Alepo’s AAA

Zain Jordan improves customer experience with a major upgrade of Alepo’s AAA

  • The upgraded system further digitizes the customer experience, eliminating manual provisioning
  • The AAA will be more robust, with additional failover, monitoring, and proactive alert features
  • Security enhancements provide comprehensive role-based access
  • Customers will enjoy a more seamless sign up and sign in experience
  • Migration services were carried out remotely, seamlessly, and with zero downtime

Tuesday, October 1, 2019, AMMAN – Cementing its telecommunications leadership, Zain Jordan has undergone a significant upgrade of its authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) infrastructure. The new AAA is expected to improve performance, reliability, and provide a more complete digital customer experience. The upgrade, completed in July, uses software from digital enablement and revenue management solution provider Alepo, which has been Zain’s long-standing partner for AAA infrastructure.

The new AAA will provide several crucial enhancements: more robust automated failover, enhanced role-based security, real-time monitoring, and proactive alerts.

Zain’s customers will also benefit, both directly and indirectly. By eliminating manual provisioning steps, customers will experience a faster and more streamlined sign up experience and be able to authenticate in more ways, including by device and location. Customers will also get improved performance and reliability.

“As a progressive telecommunications provider, we are constantly modernizing our services and operations, and Alepo’s AAA upgrade will enable us to continue doing so. The automation and real-time monitoring fit with our broader DevOps strategy. And the openness and flexibility of the platform provide a state-of-the-art customer experience,” said Mohammed Abu Rumman, Network Director, Zain Jordan.

Alepo had built and configured Zain’s legacy AAA over a decade earlier, but the telecom recognized it was time for a major upgrade.

Abu Rumman added, “Alepo is our provider of choice given our long history with the company. They are committed to ensuring the migration is seamless to our customers and that there is continuous availability.”

The upgrade was carried out remotely despite its scale. Data was migrated to a new SQL database without any service interruptions or the requirement for onsite engineers, ensuring cost and risk are minimized.

“Our delivery team has helped steer migration planning, testing, and monitoring from our GTAC offices [global technical assistance center]. This not only shortens time to market but minimizes implementation costs. Zain Jordan is a loyal customer and this upgrade enables the best support and new features of our latest AAA,” said Vishal Mathur, VP Solution Integration, Alepo.

About Zain Jordan

Zain Group acquired Zain Jordan in January 2003, in what was considered the largest single acquisition in the Middle East region, and the largest private sector investment in Jordan.

In 1995, Zain Jordan revolutionized telecommunications in Jordan by introducing GSM mobile services. Zain quickly became the foremost telecom company in the country, a position that it has held to this day by investing in adopting cutting edge technology to provide state-of-the-art services.

Since its inception, Zain Jordan has tallied subscriber growth at an exceptional rate, with around 5,903 million subscribers in the kingdom. Through over 8,132 cell sites, Zain covers the entire populated area of Jordan.

Aiming at maintaining its leading position in the marketing, Zain acquired in 2014 the license to provide LTE services for the first time in the kingdom. The service was launched in all the governorates of the kingdom in 2015, offering speeds of up to 150 mb per second. Also, part of its portfolio is the Zain Fiber FTTH service, which provides premium-quality stable internet with high speed.

Zain is considered one of the pillars of the Jordanian economy as it creates jobs for its roughly one thousand employees plus thousands of indirect employment opportunities.
