Rio de Janeiro, Monday, April 23, 2018: Core network and IT software solutions provider Alepo has been nominated for the 2018 5G & LTE Latin America Awards, slated for later this month. The awards are part of the annual 5G & LTE Latin America three-day event in Rio de Janeiro.

Alepo’s virtualized carrier WiFi solution has been shortlisted in the Best NFV/SDN Solution category, which is awarded for a new service or solution that aims to revolutionize the market and implement technology virtualization in Latin America. The nomination recognizes the innovation and originality of using NFV for an all-in-one WiFi offload and monetization solution.

Alepo has live production deployments in a variety of NFV technologies and has been deploying its core network elements as virtualized network functions in tier 1 operator networks for several years. Today, Alepo is established as an experienced and successful technology provider in this space.

The nominated carrier WiFi solution is unique in that it allows for both WiFi offload and WiFi monetization in a single virtualized offering. Numerous Latin American operators have approached Alepo for such a solution. Networks are congested, particularly in urban centers, and operators want to be able to provide their customers with a free WiFi network to improve their user experience.

WiFi enables MNOs to supplement their networks’ capacity, helping alleviate spectrum congestion and utilize it more efficiently, while reducing operational costs and maximizing revenue potential. To offset the costs of offering free WiFi, operators are selecting an all-in-one solution because of its ability to earn revenue through advertisements, capture user data from social media login, and many other out-of-the-box features.

“Our virtualized carrier WiFi solution demonstrates how NFV can not only reduce costs but significantly expand the business models that can be supported by WiFi. The ease with which our solution can be deployed, and the variety of use cases for which it is suited, have had a profound impact on the market, particularly in Latin America,” said Rafael Avigad, Vice President of Marketing at Alepo.

Alepo has been shortlisted for the 5G & LTE Latin America Awards alongside other major and innovative players, including Huawei, Mavenir, Qualcomm, Claro, Algar, Hexing, and Bwtech.
